What Other Riders Can Be Added To Locums Income Protection?
Dec 03, 2024From a locums perspective, objective professional advice must be sought to avoid underinsurance or not having appropriate riders. There are many riders (I.e, policy features). I can explain a few, such as Indexation, waiver of premium, and children's benefit.
Indexation is a system that includes cost-of-living-adjustments, which allows you to increase your cover to keep up with inflation. Indexation could allow your benefit to be increased at a maximum annual rate of 10% per year.
Waiver of premium or premium protection clause is an optional add-on means that if you make a claim, you won't have to pay further premiums while you're receiving benefits. A waiver of premium can only be added to a new policy, not an existing one.
The children's benefit is an optional add-on to income protection cover that allows you to insure up to £100,000 for your children.
Beware, customising the parameters on your policy will make a difference in the premiums (and benefits). Two factors are especially important here: first, to determine what most want in a policy and the premium that you can afford and will want to continue to pay each year, and second, to use those parameters to guide your decisions.
